Photography Idol at Chic Critique

Two posts in one day? I am on a roll, son! It is no secret that I am a fan of photography forums (Clickin’ Moms, Bloom, and Chic Critique being my favorites for different reasons) – and when I saw in a Chic Critique blog post that they would be holding a Photographer Idol (think American Idol, just with photogs), I figured I would put my big girl pants on and give it a go. The image below is my submission. The rock star pros over at Chic Critique will choose 10 photographers to participate weekly assignments and live webinars and then the public (YOU!) will vote on who should go through each week. My palms are beginning to sweat as I type this! Cross your fingers, your toes, and your eyes and wish me luck! Photographer Idol – here I come!

This is part 1 of my session with the beautiful and confident Karly. There is a sunflower field just north of Pace and we wanted to get a few shots before the cold air moved in and the flowers started to wilt. We headed out just prior to sunset and the light was absolutely perfect – my favorite time to shoot! I’ll be back in a few weeks with part 2 of our session!

My Favorite Location to Date

Andrea contacted me about scheduling a shoot on her grandparents’ property and I would be lying if I said I wasn’t nervous. I didn’t know much about the location, I couldn’t check it out before hand to see what the light would be like… my mind was full of worries as I drove over to the shoot. We were meeting up about an hour and a half before sunset – my favorite time of day for outdoor sessions, the lighting is typically gorgeous – but I was still concerned the summer sun might be too harsh.

Once there, my worries were silenced. This had to be the most gorgeous location ever. The lighting was perfect. The backdrop was perfect. To top it all off – Andrea’s daughter is a modeling rock star.

The light was nothing short of yummy. This is seriously my favorite shoot location to date.

This is one of those sessions where I have a hard time picking out images to share with you… there are too many that I love.

Thank you Andrea & Josh {& Lisa & Mrs. Gabrelchik & little Miss M!}for spending an evening with me. Your images make me smile every time I look at them and I hope they do the same for you!

Been M.I.A. but I’m Back with Images to Share!

Time has certainly run away from me with the help of a 2 week long trip to visit family in MD, followed by a weekend trip to New Orleans – and 5 photo sessions thrown into and in between. I have been blissfully busy, but a bad, bad blogger! I am sorry to be M.I.A. and if it is any consolation, I have images from 3 of the 5 sessions to share with you!

Up first – a sweet newborn girl. These images were taken during a “lifestyle” newborn shoot – natural poses, natural interactions, and all props belonged to this breathtaking little one.

I’ll be back very soon with a family session in what was quite possibly the best location ever!

Bumps & Babies

Hi all!

My schedule has been filled to the brim with bumps and babies and more bumps with soon to be more babies!

I have heard many times that photographers should find their specialty – whether it be newborns, kids, seniors, weddings, etc. and I’ve struggled with this concept b/c I like to shoot them all! My “light bulb” moment in regards to my “specialty” happened this morning – I want to specialize in telling the story through photography – whether it be an itty bitty only a few days old or a couple celebrating their 75th wedding anniversary!

I am going to go all cliche on you and say it seems like just yesterday this sweet girl was just an itty bitty. It wasn’t yesterday though, it was just over a year ago that she was born and now she is on the move, smiling up a storm, and trying to keep up with her 2 big brothers and sister. To hold the memory of her big 1 year birthday, we met up for 2 photography sessions – a ::MINI:: session cake smash outside and a ::STANDARD:: session at the beach.

Big sister got in on the action too…

p.s. Big sis is the same gorgeous girl from the ::Prom 2011:: session. Pretty good looking family, huh?!
