When you think of beach photography session, it is a safe bet that sunsets, sand, dunes, and water come to mind – and for good reason. A session on the beach is GORGEOUS and a great way to document your family’s vacation. The beach is incredibly versatile though – and not just for summer sessions! I spent an evening with this family of 4 at the beach and we did not step one foot on the sand. The entire session was shot within a quarter of a mile distance (with the exception of an amazing spot mom spotted on their drive to meet me). It was an evening full of color, laughter, and fun – just letting their beautiful selves shine though completely naturally.

I had a tough time narrowing down which images to share with you… so you are seeing practically the whole session and I was close to just posting it all, if it wasn’t for download times and whatnot. Oh – and this session is amazing when viewed with music. My favorite song to add to this is THIS one by The Lumineers.

I feel so lucky that the military has moved us from one amazing beach to another. While I may have traded the Gulf of Mexico for the Atlantic Ocean, a couple details remain the same – gorgeous light and a beautiful setting. The Simply Holiday mini-sessions I held at the beach in Surf City, NC are the perfect example of how beach sessions are not just for the summer months. The beach is such a versatile location and I enjoyed my sessions there in October – and cannot wait to have beach sessions again this summer!

My word – it is wet and a little windy out there today! I think “Sandy” is gracing southeastern NC with her presence! I hope you are all staying dry .

This week will kick off the start to our November and it is fair to say we are in the middle holiday photo season. While my own holiday mini sessions are all wrapped up, I know many of you are still preparing for yours and wondering, “What do we wear?” I get overwhelmed preparing my family’s outfits for our photo session – trying to coordinate, but not match, to add our personality and avoid the white shirt & khaki pant trap… basically to be the best possible version of ourselves. It is TOUGH! So, if you are like me and the thought of choosing the best possible outfits for your family makes your head spin a bit – maybe my Pinterest board will help.

I cannot share this whole session, after all – the goal of my Simply Holiday sessions was to provide families with beautiful, custom holiday cards. I cannot go and spoil the surprise of them over a month before the holidays!!! So, I will be good. I won’t share them… yet. I can share these with you though – from my evening with one of the sweetest little families (momma also happens to be a photographer).

I will be back after the holiday season with the full session. Pinky swear!

It’s Been Silent Here… | Wilmington NC child and family photographer

I know, I know… it has been a little quiet around here. I am behind the scenes working on the Simply Holiday 2012 sessions (which are all wrapped up – pun intended ), but I cannot share the bulk of those images. I don’t want to ruin the surprise of anyone’s holiday cards – yup, I think about things like that. So I am peeking in tonight to share a few images from another session I am working on – one of the best kind. Just a mom and her child. I have known this particular mom and child for over 6 years. Little man was one of my son’s first play dates – at the ripe ol’ age of 3 months. He has grown into quite the awesome kiddo. You may have seen one or two of these images already. They have made an appearance on my Facebook page and were featured by The Bloom Forum on their FB page AND by Clickin’ Moms on the slideshow of featured pro images. You can find more about what it means to be CM Pro here. Oh, and there will be more coming from the session – but in the meantime…

Excuses | Wilmington, NC Family Photographer

We all make them.

We don’t have anything to wear.

I would like to lose (insert number here) pounds first.

I don’t have the time.

The excuses as to why you cannot book a photography session for your family go on and on (and on and on.) I’m here today to share a little secret with you.

There is never going to be a perfect time.

There just isn’t… and you cannot let that stop you from getting a family portrait session. Those little ones are growing up – and they WILL be so different by next year. And yes – you will be taking personal pictures all year long, but (and this is a big ol’ BUT in my opinion) you are not going to have pictures of your family as a whole. Every single one of you. Laughing, snuggling, playing, reading, tickling, walking… just being yourselves, in all your imperfect perfection. You don’t need to have fancy outfits. You don’t need to lose the last few pounds. You do have the time… and your family deserves to have a beautiful set of professional images. If my fresh perspective on portrait photography is what you want – then that is all the more awesome – but regardless of who you choose to capture your family’s little moments, know that this IS the right time. No excuses.

The natural, at home perspective of Simply sessions can be included as part of my Signature sessions as well. I cannot edit without Pandora Radio. It is pretty much physically impossible. My favorite stations are Florence + the Machine (on right now) and Mumford + Sons. While editing this session – of the nicest, funniest, liveliest family from Charlotte, NC – I had the Pandora playing and the song 5 Years Time by Noah and the Whale came on… and it just fit. So feel free to put on a little Noah and the Whale (with the link I just provided) and come back here to hang out with me, Flo, JT, Matthieu, and Camille for a bit!

Way (way, way, way) back when, I used to post on the 2nd of each month sharing my view on different themes as apart of a blog circle through Clickin’ Moms. Somewhere in late spring, I fell off the proverbial horse… but I’m back, that is – if you’ll have me?
This month, I am sharing the way I view playtime. In my house, playtime revolves around whatever big brother wants to do – b/c little brother just wants to be like him (most of the time.) This isn’t to say they don’t have their own interests… they very much do. Big brother loves to play Legoes.

Little brother loves to play sports.

BUT they always enjoy a good ol’ bubble bath complete with pirate toys.
